In The Storm of Roses
Rebecca Rayselle has only ever made sensible choices. But now, at age 39, with no close friends, a career in shambles, and her marriage already over, she’s reckoning with the fact that she’s made all the wrong turns in life. The one thing she hasn’t messed up - her relationship with her neurodivergent daughter Emma - is suddenly compromised when her ex husband threatens to send Emma to boarding school. Rebecca only has one short summer to try and sort out her collapsing life and prove once and for all that Emma should stay. But when a freak encounter with a storm gifts Rebecca magical weather-related powers, her life gets infinitely more complicated. Turns out, she’s the “chosen one”, and frankly she does not have time for this shit.
But when Rebecca discovers the danger she’s been summoned to fix is threatening the future of every person on the planet, she is faced with a choice - risk life and limb to save the world, or put her own fight first and risk unleashing a catastrophe she won’t be able to shield Emma from. Both options will hurt. Both options suck. And Rebecca is over trading parts of herself away.
IN THE STORM OF ROSES, is an adult-fiction take on the “chosen one” trope. But it is also a story about the burdens of motherhood, the power of found family, and how the fate of the world sometimes rests in the most unlikely of heroes.
